Why not just ask a chatbot?

The same question, two answers

A chatbot has to recall around 15 rates and thresholds from memory, several of which changed in 2025–26. Landfall answers from a dated, editable rate table and recomputes every market the moment you change a price.

The question
I’m in Belgium selling a €49 product, VAT included, cost €18, €4.50 shipping, 2.9% fees, into France, Germany, Hungary, the UK, Switzerland, California, New York, Ontario, BC, Australia and Japan — where must I register, what do I keep at €49, and what do I owe this quarter from this export?
  • Rates and thresholds recalled from memory — often stale: Estonia, Romania, Kentucky, Taiwan all changed in 2025–26
  • VAT-included prices mixed with US before-tax pricing
  • Forgets that the EU €10,000 threshold is combined, and that the UK has no threshold for foreign sellers
  • Can’t total a pasted export reliably

FAQ

Questions before you add it to your dock

Does it file my VAT or sales tax returns?

No. Landfall is a pricing and registration aid and a preview of tax due. It doesn’t submit anything or connect to tax authorities. Use its figures to check what you’ll enter in your OSS, national or state return.

How current are the rates and thresholds?

Everything was checked on 8 October 2026, and the date is shown in the tool. Rates aren’t fetched live — the tool works offline — so every rate, threshold note and exchange rate can be edited. We re-check the data quarterly and ship it as a free update.

Which markets are covered?

The 27 EU countries; the UK, Switzerland, Norway and Türkiye; all 50 US states and DC; the 13 Canadian provinces and territories; Mexico, Chile and Colombia; Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, India, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam; Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Israel, South Africa and Egypt. Brazil and Argentina aren’t covered.

Are US rates exact for my customer’s address?

No. US rates are the state rate plus the population-weighted average local rate (Tax Foundation, 1 July 2026). The real rate depends on the delivery address; if you know it, set your own rate for that state.

Does it work for business (B2B) sales or customs duty?

No. It covers sales to consumers only. B2B sales, customs duty and import rules beyond the thresholds shown are out of scope.

Do I need an account or a store connection? Where does my data go?

No account, no install, no store connection. Landfall is a single HTML file that runs in your browser; your prices and sales stay on your device and nothing is sent to a server.

Which currencies can I work in?

US dollar, euro, Japanese yen, pound sterling, Chinese yuan and Swiss franc. Switching converts your amounts from what you originally typed, so switching back gives your exact figures. Thresholds are converted from their local currency.

What it isn’t. Landfall is a guide and a pricing and registration aid, not tax advice and not a filing service. It covers sales to consumers; business-to-business sales, customs duty and address-level US rates are out of scope, and Brazil and Argentina aren’t covered. Rules differ for goods, digital services and marketplace sales and change often, so check with each tax authority before you act.
